Exxon Mobil Employees to Return to Iraqi Oil Field With Additional Security

Exxon Mobil’s (XOM) senior company management and essential engineers have agreed to return to the West Qurna 1 oilfield in southern Iraq on June 2 after the government promised to provide additional security for the employees, Reuters reported.

The Iraqi oil ministry had called the evacuation of some 60 foreign workers at the oil field “unacceptable and unjustified” and asked the company to immediately return to work.

The oil company had earlier requested extra security from the police and the army at work sites and residences, which was approved by government officials. The oil ministry and Basra Oil Co. also sent letters of assurance, according to the report.
